Blair Waldorf's dual personality styles

Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl is this clever, moody, sneaky and cunning young woman who deals with the superficial drama of her and her friend’s high-school life. Her personality style has traits of borderline personality disorder and there’s also some characteristics of something known as covert narcissism.

Covert narcissism is a not the same as its grandiose and malignant buddies. It’s a form of narcissism that’s takes on a victimized, complaining, and ill-mannered display. These are the narcissists who are contemptuous, jealous, who lack social skills and really think that the world did them wrong. Their grandiosity comes out in the form of complaining so its like “The world never saw how talented I was. If only the people i worked with were smart enough to see my greatness I would’ve been at the top of the mountain”. Their entitlement is them being rude and impolite in social settings and bad mouthing all the people there. they still have the unempathic rageful qualities of narcissistic people but because they come off as this miserable, helpless person people are quick to just feel bad for them and not hold them accountable for their actions.

Blair probably isn’t a full blown covert narcissist but we definitely see some overlap. One of her most prominent narcissistic characteristics is her jealousy towards her best-friend, Serena. At parties she’s the one in the corner making snarky comments about the guests. And then there’s her pessimistic entitled attitude towards the world.

Blair has shown symptoms of BPD too. The most prominent being her emotional instability, when she feels a strong emotion like frustration, stress or sadness it gets sort of harmoginized into anger and so she has these rage outbursts (a trait of the petulant borderline) when she’s in a rageful state of mind she can be revenge seeking, out of control and harmful. She is also impulsive, she really doesn’t think twice about the things she says and the things she does (for example her revenge plots).
